EVE Info Panels

Case Study

We wanted to give players the freedom to customize information panel for the current solar system. We created three states; normal, compact and collapsed which players could set globally or for each individual panel seperately. We recognized that players needed different info panel setups depending on where they were in the game, in space, in station, on planets. So we added the ability to customize the layout for each. Additionally we added more options and settings to each tab and gave the whole system a complete visual and functional overhaul.

Primary Goals

  • Make all Info Panels consistent visually and functionally
  • Give the player an option to hide the panels when not using them, so they can look at our awesome spaceships and nebulae
  • Consolidate all of this information into a series of expandable/collapsible UI elements
  • Support quick look-up hover functionality in addition to fully expanded on-click functionality
  • Add support for system notifications to give more accessible updates on relevant activity
  • Each view state will have a default panel setup which the players can adjust to their needs and have the adjustment persist for each view state
